Sex Toys

Sex Toys

Sex toys can make you and your relationship more satisfying.  A desire to use sex toys does not mean your partner is not good in bed or you are replacing your partner.  It is simply a willingness to add enhanced foreplay, novelty, passion, and excitement to a sexual relationship.

Sex toys provide a variety of means to discover new ways to get and give pleasure. Whether it is with a partner or under solo conditions, the introduction of a sex toy into the act can add stimulation and pleasure beyond the imagination. For some women, the bullet or vibrator is needed to achieve orgasm. For others, the toy supplements their already heightened sense of intense pleasure.

The need to bring your partner(s) into focus arises as a matter of importance. Whether your partner happens to be male or female, you cannot ignore the importance of frank and open dialogue concerning the use of sex toys in your relationship.  Sit down and talk about adding toys to your sex life, the do’s, and don’ts.

Watch movies, read books, or play games together.  Add intimate conversation to your foreplay and at the same time teach one another what you will or will not tolerate. If you are single you can use a sex toy to learn yourself what you like and do not like.

Then the next time you have a sexual encounter you can school your partner on how to please you. Your partners are not mind readers. Tell them what you want and how you want it.

Toys come in all shapes, sizes, and speeds, so consider how you want to use your toy.  Practice erotic techniques either alone or with your partner and discover where and how you enjoy your pleasure most - external to massage that clitoris, or internal to hit your G-spot.

History of sex toys:
There is a lot of myth and misinformation surrounding the history of vibrators in the West, starting with Cleopatra. First, I read they were used medically to treat hysteria in women, then they were sold as massagers. They were also designed to treat pain, headaches, irritability, indigestion, and constipation—in men. FINALLY, in the 20th Century they became a tool for pleasure.

Where does the word dildo come from?
The term dildo was first coined around 1400 AD and originated from the Latin for ‘dilatare’, which means ‘open wide’, and the Italian for delight, which translates as ‘diletto.’

The importance of cleaning sex toys:
You should clean your sex toy with Essence of Nature mild “Sex Toy Cleanser” ( after each use to prevent bacteria from collecting. Let them air dry on a clean surface and store in a  clean nightstand or whatever bag the toy comes in (sometimes toys come with bags to store your toy).

Fun fact:
Did you know the oldest known sex toy is almost 30,000 years old, but it took generations for us to feel comfortable talking about them as the discourse surrounding sex toys is often filled with misconceptions, stereotypes, and feelings of discomfort.

The importance of safe sex:
Safe sex is having sexual contact while protecting yourself and your sexual partner against sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancy. Sexual contact that does not involve the exchange of semen, vaginal fluids or blood between partners is considered to be safe sex.

Unsafe sex may put you or your partner at risk of STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, Mycoplasma genitalium, HIV or hepatitis B, or may result in an unplanned pregnancy.
Safe sex is also about having sex when you and your partner are ready, and having sex that’s enjoyable, respectful and protected. Ways that you can practice

safer sex include:

  • Having sex with only one partner, when neither of you has any STIs, is the safest way to have sex.
  • Be STI free by getting tested for common infections and having treatment if necessary, especially if you have a new partner. Avoid sexual contact until the doctor or nurse tells you that you are no longer infectious and until both you and you partner have been treated.
  • Communicate with your sexual partner about what you want and enjoy sexually.
  • Be aware that drugs and alcohol may affect your ability to make good decisions. Protect yourself from having sex that you might regret or were pressured into because you were not thinking properly.
  • Use other types of contraception in addition to a condom to avoid unplanned pregnancy.
